What The Girl Team Did (by India)

Since we didn’t have any water we couldn’t go to school.  Woot!  Woot!

The boys were very busy fixing the water problem.  They didn’t really need us girls around.  So my mom said, “Hey, it’s Wednesday and that means Ajijic tianguis is today.”  And I said, “How about we call Ellice and see if she can come with us.”  (Ellice is Chad’s wife and my friend)

When you drive in Mexico you will see people having fires on  the side of the road.  They are not dangerous.  They are usually for cooking or clearing the dry grass.

I like tianguis.  Ajijic tianguis is my favorite.  It’s the longest and it has a lot of things I like.  It has grape juice that looks like it’s in a wine bottle but it’s juice and it tastes real good.  Then there is all the fresh fruit -grapes, pomegranate seeds in a cup, strawberries, apples, cactus (I haven’t tried this yet), and anything you can dream of.  It also has pretty jewelry and purses.  There are even belt buckles with real scorpions inside -but don’t worry, they are dead.

My favorite thing we did was to get fresh orange juice.  This kid made it right in front of us.  He puts fresh oranges in juice maker, he pushes the handle down and a lot of juice comes out.  He does this over and over until he fills your cup.  Plus he asks you if you want pulp or no pulp.  I like sin pulpa (no pulp) so he puts the juice in a bowl with a strainer on top.

We get it in a giant cup which Mom says is a liter and it costs less than $2!  It’s big enough for me and Kitty to share.

While we were walking some ladies were selling stuff that they knitted.  They stopped Ellice to look at her pretty cape that her friend made.  They were figuring out a pattern to make the cape.  One lady even wrote down the pattern of stitches on her hand.  I think her cape was pretty.  Maybe if I keep practicing my knitting I can make one for me.

Running out of water was NOT a good thing.  But I still had a fun day because I didn’t have to go to school and I got to go to tianguis and be with Ellice.  That happens a lot here in Mexico.  Something happens that’s not good but then it turns out to be fun anyway.

hi heather. this juice would make up for all the crazy winter weather you have right now. instead of buying expensive oranges back home you could just buy this because it tastes better than eating an orange -and it’s cheaper. miss you a lot.

Hi, I responded to your bro. now I’ll respond to yours too! That cactus in the market, I tried it when we were in Mexico, they cut it in long thin strips I thought it was green beans. It was kind of funny, I was sick and we were working at bethel in Mexico. So since I was sick they brought me a tray of food. The tricky “green beans” were one of the items the even trickier part they sliced up jalpeno. So me thinking it green beans, one of my favorites, I start to chow down and Aaaaagggghhh!!!! Hot!!!! Not funny ……ok it is now.

I can’t believe you girls went shopping while the guys stayed home & fixed the water! Woo Hoo! Go girls! What fun! Kathryne & Meghan are jealous! Seeing all those yummy things has made us hungry!
Keep practicing your knitting, it’s a great thing to learn! Yoko, who owns the Knitting Circle in Somerset, can look at something & figure out the pattern in her head also! (I was always so impressed! How cool is that?!)
