WE HAVE ??? PHONE NUMBERS

Do you know your own number?

I don’t

…but I have a pretty good excuse.

We have too many numbers!

There is our Mexico home phone and there are 2 cell phones for Mikee and myself.

And Skype.

And Magic Jack.

We brought down our home and business phone numbers from the States.

(that’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 -right?)

When a phone rings, we spend the first couple rings trying to figure out which phone it is and then scramble to answer it on time.

Communication.  It’s a good thing.  It’s nice to be able to keep in touch with friends and family that are far away.  It’s an important part of Mikee’s business and being able to work down here, which makes this whole wonderful adventure possible.   And of course we need to be in touch down here in Mexico too.

This may sound crazy to y’all that are reading this but it’s not uncommon for people who live here.  In fact, when we are getting or giving a phone number we always ask, “Do you want US numbers or Mexican?”

Many people use Vonage for their US calling.

There are several different prefix codes for numbers here even right in town -but we are figuring them out.

Skype is super fantastical and wonderful.  (we use Magic Jack in a pinch)

Mikee brought down his nice cell phone from the States and had it unlocked to be able to have a Mexican number.  Cell phones are everywhere and minutes are cheap.  Everybody has a cell phoneEverybody! And the weird thing is you can call someone for free up to 5 minutes so lots of people make many short phone calls.  We buy about $10 worth of minutes each month.  To do this we just swipe a little card (like the grocery store rewards cards) at the local convenience store.  We have been here about 3 months and so far we spent maybe $20 -and that’s for 2 phones!

We are glad to have found OOMA.  This is a service that allows us to bring our US phone numbers anywhere in the world.  It costs just under $4 a month.  How cheap is that for convenient unlimited calling with extremely clear sound.  And many of you know that phone number already.  😉

Best phone ever!

The sad part of this story is that I had to stop using my favorite 15 year old cell phone and upgrade to one with WiFi and bluetooth and camera and radio and I don’t even really know what else.  Still miss my trusty Nokia.  (at least people stop teasing me with the “Hey, 1988 called and they want their cell phone back.”)

Em, you can tell Richard I was forced to switch into the 21 century and get a real phone.  🙂

So, feel free to give us a call.  Just please don’t ask me for my number.  I can’t remember it.

Came across your blog today. My husband and I have been serving in Tarija, Bolivia the past six months. We really enjoy it here. I think it is so amazing that you are doing this with children. How amazing. So many think they can not do this work with children, but you are proof you can. May Jehovah bless all your efforts. Christian Love, Justin and Stephanie Davy
