SUNDAY, APRIL 17

Last year…

Back in Rhode Island, USA

This year…

Jocotopec, Mexico

The first picture is the annual photo of the kiddos in our congregation States from last year.  It started when there was just my son and a couple others.  Now, as you can see, there are many.  (there are even a couple missing from the picture)  The second picture is from our new congregation that we moved to here in Mexico -the other kids in the photo are studying or visiting.  Our NEW congregation here in Mexico has NO OTHER KIDS!

This has been a very special month for so many of our friends around the world.  Jehovah’s Witnesses are well known for their public ministry.  This year special effort was made for collectively more time spent teaching the Bible than any other month in their modern day history.  This work is voluntary.  Each individual does their personal best.  Many congregations, however, have over half of their volunteers scheduling to spend between 30-70 hours in this work during this April of 2011.  That is amazing when you consider that this is in addition to normal life -working, children, household responsibilities, health issues, difficult economic times.  Not even to mention the natural disasters that so many have been affected by this month and the steady relief work being done to assist those.

April 2 -Kick Off of Tract Campaign

Our family also has been sharing in that work this month.  We have helped out in distributing personal invitations to all the English speaking people in our territory (there are many Spanish congregations here that take care of the Spanish speaking people) to the annual commemoration of the Lord’s Evening Meal, also known as the Memorial of Christ’s death.

Last year, there were 18,706,895 in attendance for this special observance -this is astounding considering there are only 7,508,050 Jehovah’s Witnesses as of last year in 236 lands.  But with all the intensified efforts, perhaps this year there will be much more.  Just here in Mexico there were 2,148,385 that attended in 2010.  I think that for every 58 people here in Mexico, a person attended this special event.

Our little congregation here in Jocotopec has 31 publishers.  (we moved in and pushed it over the 30)  Our focus is just the English speaking people in the area.  Our kiddos are the only kids in the hall -compared to our old hall with 35 kids under the age of 13.  (that’s more kids than publishers in Joco)  This year our Memorial was held in a home.  This was a new experience for us.  There were 47 in attendance.  Even some kids.

What does that mean for you?  Chances are you have been approached by Jehovah’s Witnesses at some point.  Perhaps you have family members, workmates, or friends that are Witnesses.  Hopefully, as a reader of our blog you can see how normal we are.  (or try to be) 😉  We have the same concerns of our family’s well being and also the same desire to have a satisfying life with purpose.  I am not too old 😉 but there is a huge difference in the world my children are growing up in and the world that Mikee and I grew up in.

If you had the opportunity to attend the Memorial, I hope you enjoyed the program designed to learn about the importance of Jesus’ death and the love of his Father to make provision for God’s original purpose for the Earth to be realized.

Many people are disgusted with religion. Many religions are responsible for untold amounts of hatred, intolerance, oppression and bloodshed, all under the guise of pleasing God.  Mankind’s history is full of people being harmed by the religion and religious leaders they have trusted for their spiritual welfare.  Jesus warned that many people would claim to follow him yet Jesus would say “Get away from me you workers of lawlessness!”  Just because they misrepresent God, it does not take away from God’s word the Holy Bible and it’s knowledge and future promises.

The Bible provides the key to your enjoying a truly satisfying life even now. Think for a moment about your own anxieties and troubles. They may include money matters, family problems, loss of health, or the death of a loved one. The Bible can help you to deal with problems today, and it can provide relief by answering such questions as these:

  • Why do we suffer?
  • How can we cope with life‘s anxieties?
  • How can we make our family life happier?
  • What happens to us when we die?
  • Will we ever see our dead loved ones again?
  • How can we be sure that God will fulfill his promises for the future?

It’s very easy to find out the answers to these questions in you personal copy of the Bible by visiting here.

And the next time you meet one of Jehovah’s Witnesses ask them, “So why is your preaching work so important?”

PS-Gail, India helped Bernice and Julie out with the flowers at Ella’s home.  We were thinking of you!  xoxo
