NOT AGAIN

You will not believe what happened as we were driving from Costco to the airport in Cancun.

Yep.  Stopped By Police 2 DAYS IN A ROW!!!

Note:  This is not an actual photo of the real police officer.  There were actually two motorcycle cops (just like on the old TV show CHIPS) I did not think it would end well if I pulled out my camera and started to take his picture.  😉

This time Mikee was driving.

When driving here, you follow much closer than most are used to in the US.  If you leave any space, another car will jump in front of you.  We were behind a car that all of a sudden slowed down to take a left turn which put us in the middle of 2 lights as they changed.  The choice is to stay in the spot and get run into by the wave of traffic from the other direction or quickly get through.

Mikee used his “spanglish” to just keep conversation going.  Basically, it seems they do not really want to write up the ticket but are waiting to see if you are scared enough or rushed enough to offer some $ to get the whole thing over.  He ended up just saying to be more careful and have a nice day.

This officer was much nicer than the guy I had to deal with the other day.

A friend of mine that lives up near Tijuana wrote me about yesterday’s stop…

I have had my share of those, you did the right thing. I refuse to speak Spanish to them and act like the tourist. They only stop the cars that are in good shape and the drivers might have money. Refuse to pay them anything.

We made it to the airport to pick up our guests and didn’t end up in jail.  So, it all turned out ok.  🙂

    Mike,

You need to remove the bumper sticker that says ” I’m American Carrying Cash”. We had a wonderful time with your family. Hope to see you again soon.

This happened to us long ago in Rosarita (near Tijuana). After some conversation and waiting he just let us go. Probably realized he was missing out on other, more cooperative opportunities. Good times.
